Giant Defy Advanced Pro 2
Comfortable endurance road bike that is slightly less aggressive than the more compact TCR
Pros:
Comfortable
Performs well on mixed surfaces
Cons:
Not as aggressive as TCR, especially on the climbs
The flat saddle doesn’t suit everybody
Giant bikes have historically been known more for reliability and affordability than styling and the Defy Advanced Pro 2 shows how far the bike maker has come in recent years.
Giant says you can ride for longer, faster and smooth out rough roads with a frameset and parts that are engineered for compliance.
“From gran fondos to epic solo rides, this lightweight bike is great for challenging rides,” Giant says.
“The Defy has evolved to become one of the best in its class,” a reviewer says.
“With advanced-grade carbon fibre, its design and geometry gives comfort that does not compromise speed.
“The wide 32c tyres are fast on tar and surprisingly good on gravel and mixed surfaces.”
On the downside, the Contact SL Neutral saddle has a flat profile.
“The relief channel is welcome, but my personal preference is for a more supportive design, such as Specialized’s Power or something curvier like Fizik’s Aliante,” said a reviewer.
Some think Giant is still more reliable and affordable than stylish. At R65 515 with Ultegra, would you be proud to park this bike at your favourite coffee shop?
